About the Event

Join the East Harris County Empowerment Council (EHCEC), Islamic Relief USA (IRUSA), Crosby ISD, and community partners for the Crosby Back-to-School Bash and Day of Dignity.

Day of Dignity is an initiative of Islamic Relief USA (IRUSA) that brings organizations, volunteers, and community partners together to provide essential items, supportive services, and meaningful assistance to families experiencing financial hardship. The initiative is centered on ensuring every person is served with respect, compassion, dignity, and choice.

Through this Day of Dignity event, Crosby-area students and families will receive backpacks, grade-appropriate school supplies, clothing, shoes, hygiene items, food assistance, and connections to valuable community resources. The event will also include free haircuts, games, face painting, and family-friendly activities to help students begin the school year feeling prepared, confident, and supported.

Volunteers will help bring IRUSA’s Day of Dignity initiative to life by creating a welcoming, organized, and respectful experience for every family served.

Volunteer Responsibilities

Volunteers may assist with:

• Setting up and decorating the event space
• Welcoming families and explaining the Day of Dignity process
• Assisting with student and family check-in
• Managing lines and directing families between stations
• Distributing backpacks and school supply kits
• Organizing and restocking supplies
• Assisting families in the clothing and shoe area
• Supporting the haircut station and managing the waiting area
• Distributing food vouchers and directing families to food trucks
• Assisting with games, face painting, and youth activities
• Supporting housing, workforce, health, mental health, public benefits, and family-resource tables
• Helping families complete event surveys
• Assisting community partners and event staff
• Cleaning and breaking down the event space

The event is expected to serve approximately 600 school-aged children and 200 adults, making volunteer support essential to the success of the day.

Volunteer Requirements

• Volunteers must be at least 16 years old or accompanied by an adult if younger.
• Wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes.
• Be prepared to stand, walk, and assist families for extended periods.
• Be willing to lift and move light boxes or supplies.
• Bring a reusable water bottle.
• Serve every family with patience, kindness, respect, and dignity.

Water and light refreshments will be provided.
